Turbulent flow around circular arcs

چکیده

The flow around a circular arc is governed by the effect of sharp leading edge and arc's curvature. There range incidences where leading-edge separation bubble (LESB) formed on convex side arc, reattached boundary layer separates further downstream. Akin to foils cylinders, for increasing values Reynolds number, turns from laminar turbulent resulting in step change forces, here termed force crisis. This phenomenon characterized experimentally an with camber-to-chord ratio 0.22 number 53 530 218 000. Forces are measured both towing tank water tunnel, particle image velocimetry undertaken tunnel. In stark contrast crisis associated laminar-to-turbulent transition layer, here, it found be suppressed relaminarization layer. fact, LESB always at tested conditions, occurs up combination critical angles attack numbers. angle varies linearly number. These results may contribute design thin cambered wings, sails, blades transitional such as wings micro aerial vehicles, swept subsonic flight, turbomachinery blades, sails autonomous sailing vessels.

Flow Visualization Around a Non - Circular Tube

The flow behavior around a cam shaped tube in cross flow has been investigated experimentally using flow visualization and pressure distribution measurement. The range of attack angle and Reynolds number based on an equivalent circular diameter are within 0 ≤ α ≤ 360˚ and 2 x 104 < Reeq < 3.4 x 104, respectively. The pressure drag features are clarified in relation to the flow behavior around t...

Turbulent Pulsating Flow through Circular Ducts

In the present paper, a numerical method has been demonstrated which works on an overall NewtonRaphson type algorithm and is capable of solving the “inverse” problem for turbulent, fullydeveloped, pulsating pipe flows, where the mass flow rate, rather than the pressure gradient is prescribed as a periodic function of time. The momentum equation, governing the transient, fullydeveloped pulsating...

Large scale flow around turbulent spots

Numerical simulations of a model of plane Couette flow focusing on its in-plane spatio-temporal properties are used to study the dynamics of turbulent spots. While the core of a spot is filled with small scale velocity fluctuations, a large scale flow extending far away and occupying the full gap between the driving plates is revealed upon filtering out small scales. It is characterized by stre...

Simulation of turbulent flow around cylinders

Statistical flow modelling does not provide enough detail for many flows of engineering relevance in which unsteadiness is a central feature. This applies particularly to bluff-bodies and assemblies comprising bluff components for which the resolution of peak forces, unsteady loading, acoustics and fatigue are of interest as part of the design process. An example application which has been stud...

Triangulations with Circular Arcs

An important objective in the choice of a triangulation is that the smallest angle becomes as large as possible. In the straight line case, it is known that the Delaunay triangulation is optimal in this respect. We propose and study the concept of a circular arc triangulation— a simple and effective alternative that offers flexibility for additionally enlarging small angles—and discuss its appl...
